Ask Dave

May, 1999

Dear Dave,
Recently, I was at the Shopping Mall in Tracy, California and I saw you perform. I was so delighted by your selection and style of Classical Music, that it reminded me of my trip to Spain. I was extremely impress by the way you played, "Leyenda" and the way you were able to move your fingers on your guitar. My question is that I have been taking lessons for the last year and a half and I wonder what is it that you would suggest someone like me to do to increase the speed of my finger movement.
Jose

Dear Jose,
Thank you for enjoying the presentation I gave. It is always a pleasure to hear about the enjoyment my audience receives. To answer your question I would have to say that with time you will develop the speed you are looking to achieve within your fingers. However, I can recommend that you take a rubber band and place them loosely around your fingers in which you could stretch your fingers within the rubber band. This is a good exercise to increase the muscles within your fingers. With time and plenty of practice, you will be surprise how your fingers will attain the speed you are looking for.
Sincerely,
Dave
